Filling the Hungry Tummy

When the long arm of the clock hits lunch time, I am in a hurry to eat as early as possible to occupy vacant seats to eat as early as possible in this very own replica of one of the country’s leading fast food chain — “Mcduko-duko”, my choice of happy eating at the lowest price.

Earlier than 12 o’clock, when the classes are out, and when the university cafeteria and canteen are filled with hungry students from the six colleges here in the main campus, it is expected that food stalls at Mcduko-duko will be the next destination due to the hundreds of students coming in and out of the school. Whether they are in their uniform or just in their casual attire, still they do not mind the dirt of the tampered soil, the low-height ceilings, and the no-wall architectural design of these temporarily made wooden carenderias because the food will surely suffice their hunger.

Fight Apathy!!!

What is a student publication? It is either a reading material used to inform or just pieces of paper used to kill time. It could also be used as a protection from the dirt of the benches in the open court or as head coverings when it is raining. It could even be the wrappers of your lunch boxes or a substitute of the toilet tissues. It could be the place where students who have the writing prowess could brag to other students on how good they are.

But it is more than that. The essence of having a student publication is not for the fame or superiority but in having YOU as the clientele.

When the Barrier is Gone

“The problem is not that the deaf do not hear. The problem is that the hearing world does not listen. “-Jesse L. Jackson

It was almost eight years ago and the memories of my summer vacation still linger in my thoughts as if it was just yesterday. Like everyone else who has spent their vacation elsewhere with their families, this story would be nothing unusual, nothing extraordinary. But one thing is for sure. That time of my life changed everything of who I am today.
